The Gresley A4 Pacifics
www.lner.info/locos/A/a4.shtml
In the 1930s Sir Nigel Gresley, a British locomotive designer, developed a class of high speed steam locomotives for the London & North Eastern Railway.. One of these held the world record for the fastest steam locomotive ever built - 122 mph over a measured mile. Take a look and read about these beautiful streamlined machines. although no longer in regular use, several of them are preserved and maintained in running order in England and they are often fired up and used for hauling special trains. One of them is displayed in a railway museum in Canada.
